Welcome and Opening Remarks; COVID-19 Update. Victoria Ford convened the meeting. She stated that last month, the Kerrville State Hospital started transforming two vacant buildings on its campus into a maximum-security forensic unit. This will add 70 beds to the existing 220-bed capacity as well as an est. 260 new jobs in nursing, psychiatry, psychology, social work, and support services. This new unit is expected to be completed by September 2021. Dr. Hellerstedt provided an update on the COVID-19 effort. He stated that one of the variables they track most closely is hospital capacity. We passed a peak some weeks ago— 10,000+ people in the hospital every day with a diagnosis of COVID-19. This would include general medical beds as well as ICU beds. Today, we are down below 6,000 individuals. That’s good news, but we are still at a considerably stressed level. The goal is to get the numbers down even further, in part so that hospitals can get back to providing non-COVID-19-relate
