House and Senate Interim Committee on Prescribing & Dispensing Controlled Substances

The Committee met to discuss and hear testimony on the monitoring and prescribing of controlled substances in this state. The Sunset Commission mandated the use of the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) data base in advance of prescribing certain controlled substances. The Chair stated that the substance use crisis is driving the work of this committee. HB 2561 was key in advancing the effort of improving usage of the PNP. PANEL I: The Chair called Steven Ogle, Texas Sunset Advisory Commission; Alison Benz, Executive Director Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Mr. Ogle stated that he was the project manager for the Sunset Review for the State Board of Pharmacy.
